MEMBERS NEWSLETTER

5th March 2015

Welcome to this our latest newsletter.  We are now officially into Spring and busy times lay ahead and we hope that by keeping you informed we will be able to draw on your help and support.

Notice of Emergency General Meeting

An Emergency General Meeting will be held immediately prior to the Annual General Meeting on 23rd April 2015 commencing at 20:30.  This meeting has been called to approve some minor changes to the Club’s Constitution. Details of these changes have been posted on the Notice Board.

Notice of Annual General Meeting

Under the terms of its constitution the club is required to hold an Annual General Meeting which this year will be on the Thursday 23rd April at 20:40 which means the advance class will finish half an hour early.

This is your opportunity to have a say in the running of the club so please make every effort to attend.  Members of the committee are elected for a 3 year term and each year two members stand down at the end of their term but may be elected for a further term.

This year we have several vacancies on the Management Committee. Firstly Lyn Fairbrother will be stepping down as Chair after many years’ service to the club. Lyn has been associated with the club for around 40 years and has served as Chair since we became a Registered Charity in 1996

We also have a vacancy of Club Treasurer. Alasdair Matthews was co-opted onto the committee last year and has been working with Geoff Torrington to achieve a smooth handover of the club’s finances.  Nonetheless the formal appointment of a Treasurer will need to be made at the AGM.

The final vacancy is that of Committee member vacated by Alan Jones and Ravi Pang.  Both have indicated that they do not wish to stand for a further term of office.  This is an opportunity for you to become more closely involved in the running of your club. We would welcome “new blood” onto the committee which meets around six times a year which is not a huge commitment.  If you are interested and would like to know more please contact me or speak to one of the other committee members.

Nominations (proposed and seconded in accordance with the constitution) for positions on the management committee should be sent to the Club Secretary by 2nd April 2015.

Car Boot Fairs

We will once again be holding a Car Boot every Bank Holiday Monday with the first being Easter Monday 6th April.  These events are an important source of revenue for the club, but they do not run themselves and we always need help from members. If you are able to give some time please speak to one of the committee members.

Car Park Changes

The Parish Council have advised us that they will be undertaking work to improve traffic flow and safety in the car park during March. New signs will be installed in the week commencing 16th March and 23rd March. Any disruption, which will be minimal, should be restricted to the daytime, however please be extra vigilant when entering the site over this period.

Pinewood Festival

This year’s Pinewood Festival will be held on Sunday 5th July so please make a note in your diary.  This is another important fund raising opportunity requiring numerous volunteers.

Disabled Access

The committee has agreed to improve the entrance to the club by building a wheelchair accessible ramp and installing new front and internal doors to the main entrance.  We have applied for a SITA Communities grant and will hear in mid-April whether we have been successful.  This along with the very generous sponsorship from two local companies will hopefully mean that there will be very little cost to the club. We will keep you informed when work is due to start.
