Southend International

Last weekend Pinewood fighters were in action at the prestigious Southend International Championship. These is an annual 2 day event that attracts competitors from Belgium, Germany, France and Holland as well as a strong contingent from the home countries.

On Saturday Caitlyn Clark put in an impressive performance taking a Gold medal.

This was followed by Jonny Northover and Etienne Keeler who both showed big improvements in their judo to take a Silver medal each.
Charlie Howell, Declan Whyte and senior fighter Sean Dineen all fought their way through to a Bronze medal apiece.

Sunday saw a serious assault on the podium from Pinewood with some great performances.

Phoebe Shea, in her first big competition took a Gold medal with maximum scores all the way.

Gold medals were also taken by Louis Regan,Terri Gough and Dan Franklin. A great performance from Dan in his final saw him beat the National Champion in his weight by a maximum 10 point throw.
Olly Young untroubled this time by referees managed a creditable Silver.

Sometimes a medal count cannot tell the whole story and coach Mark Fricker was also very proud of 2 young judoka Tobias Chapman and Jay Bennett who fought their hearts out to lose in their Bronze medal fights.

A very strong Pinewood weekend!
