Ford Age Banded

The Pinewood Judo Club fought in the Ford Age Banded tournament last Sunday, at the Gores Brook Leisure Centre. The event was well attended and ran like clockwork, thanks to the organisers; Ford Judo Club of Dagenham.

Each coach had to nominate six of his squad and their score went towards winning the challenge cup. Pinewood won first place by a narrow margin. Guessing who is on form and can win the most points for the club is quite difficult, but the first four clubs were close on points showing that the coaches judged their Judoka well.

Pinewood’s fighters nominated by Coach Don Werner were Jenny Roberts, Emma Pang, Paige Brazier, Annabelle Ryan Hooper, Dominic Naylor and Tommy Ryan Hooper.

In group one for under 11 years Christian Tepper won gold at under 27 kgs, under 30 kgs Sam Blair also won gold and the other Pinewood boy in the section, Myles Trainor won silver at under 34 kgs.

The three Pinewood girls in the group had a good day with Holly Eccles winning bronze under 25 kgs, Yolande Andrews silver under 28 kgs and Jenny Roberts won gold at under 32 kgs, Jenny won every fight by maximum points.

Group two was for those born in 1996 to 1997, Tommy Ryan Hooper won silver at under 30 kgs while at his new weight of under 34 kgs Marcus Trafford won gold and George Lawes took a very creditable bronze trophy.

Asher Price was fighting superbly and he won gold in the very strong under 42 kgs weight group.

Again the girls held their own against some very strong opposition. At under 32 kgs Emma Pang won gold and Emily Harper took bronze. Leah Blair did well to win bronze at under 36 kgs and Hannah Moore was in superb form winning gold at under 40 kgs. Hannah injured herself in training last Tuesday but she coped well, winning all of her fights by maximum points. Sophie Tepper did well to win bronze at under 44 kgs because this event was a bit above her usual level. However she put everything into the fights and produced a most creditable result.

Group three was for those born in 1992-93-94-95 and again there were tough groups with high numbers entered. Dominic Naylor won bronze at under 38 kgs, he was fighting very well but in the semi final he had an excellent throw disallowed which cost him a place in the final. Recently Dominic has had a run of these occurrences but he is very experienced and will just get on with the job in hand.

Charlie Davis had a good day winning silver at under 46 kgs and Sam Trafford also had an excellent day winning silver in the very strong under 55 kgs weight group.

Paige Brazier started the girls score with gold at under 40 kgs and Annabelle Ryan Hooper also won gold at under 44 kgs. Two bronze trophies came from Jasmine Crean under 57 kgs and Charlotte Mansfield in the open weight group.
