Midland Area Age Banded

The Midland Area Age Banded tournament was held last weekend at the Walsall Campus near Birmingham. It was strongly supported because it was nominated event for selection to the British Cadet and Youth squads.

The Pinewood entry was a bit low due to school examinations, also injury and sickness that seem to be prevalent at this time of the year.

It was a two day event and on Saturday the Pinewood medallists were Ben Fletcher gold in the under 90 kgs weight group, Sophie Pang silver at under 52 kgs, Emma Pang gold under 40 kgs, Leah Blair bronze under 44 kgs and Nicole Brown bronze under 57 kgs.

On Sunday the Pinewood under 12 years section did very well indeed, James Widman won gold at under 27 kgs, Christian Tepper won gold at under 30 kgs and Sam Blair also won gold at under 34 kgs. William Von Mallinckrodt did well to win bronze at under 46 kgs, to round off the boys group.

The girls also had quite a good day, Holly Eccles won silver at under 28 kgs and Olivia Spellman also took the silver at under 40 kgs. These two are new to this level of event, so this was a great result. Jenny Roberts won gold at under 36 kgs, she is the National champion in the group at this weight but even so it was quite hard going.
