Midland Area Under 20

The Midland Area under 20 age Banded tournament was held at the Walsall Campus over two days, last weekend. The Pinewood squad did quite well to win 5 gold, 2 silver and 8 bronze medals. This was the equivalent to one less silver than last year but is an acceptable result.

In the “A” group for under 12 year old Judoka the squad produced the best result for the Club, they won gold in four of the five weight groups entered. In the under 30 kgs weight group Marcus Trafford fought well to win gold and at under 42 kgs Asher Price carried all before him to also win the gold medal.

The girls were led off at under 32 kgs by Emma Pang who won gold and Emily Harper took bronze. Hannah Moore rounded off this age group by winning gold at under 40 kgs.

In the “B” group for those born 1994 and 1995 bronze seemed to be the order of the day because they were won by at under 38 kgs Ben Roberts, under 55 kgs Ryan Cooper, under 40 kgs Paige Brazier and Dominique Brown under 52 kgs.

In the “C” group for Judoka born 1992 and 1993 the picture improved when Charlie Davis won bronze at under 46 kgs and Ben Fletcher was in tremendous form winning gold at under 73 kgs.

The girls did well too with Sophie Pang under 48 kgs and Sarah Pang under 52 kgs both winning the silver medal. Both of the Pangs were fighting in Arlon near Luxemburg on the previous day so this was quite an arduous weekend for them. Charlotte Mansfield rounded off the group with bronze in the open weight group.

In the oldest group “D” born 1988 to 1991 only one medal came from Liam Franklin, a bronze at under 60 kgs. The event was strongly supported with fighters from the length and breadth of the UK so any medals won were well worth having.
