North West Senior Open / Bristol Classic
Three of the Pinewood Judo Club’s seniors fought in the North West Area Open Championships on Sunday. They did well with Megan Fletcher winning gold and Victoria Pang the bronze medal at under 70 kgs against some quite strong opposition.
Oliver Fricker had some good fights but as he was in a pool with the eventual gold and silver medallists, winning a medal was a somewhat difficult proposition.
The juniors were fighting at the Bristol Classic held in the Leisure Centre at Bradley Stoke. The event had a large entry, so it was well worth the trip. It was divided into under 12 years and under 16 year groups, with the new rules applied in the under 12s.
The Pinewood youngest group did well, starting the score at under 30 kgs Marcus Trafford fought superbly to win gold and Tommy Ryan Hooper produced some excellent judo to win the bronze trophy. Asher Price moved up to under 42 kgs and stormed through the group to win the gold.
The girls also did well with Yolande Andrews taking bronze at under 28 kgs. At under 32 kgs it was an all Pinewood final with Emma Pang winning gold and Jenny Roberts silver. For both girls it was their first time in the weight group and Phoebe Augier followed this with bronze at under 36 kgs.
Hannah Moore won gold at under 40 kgs and Anastasia Andrews took the bronze, then Sophie Tepper did well to win bronze at under 44 kgs.
The under 16 year boys had a good day, first off were the under 38 kgs weight group with Dominic Naylor winning gold and Ben Roberts the silver. Under 42 kgs Joshua Trafford fought hard to win silver and Charlie Davis also won silver at under 46 kgs.
Three bronze medals came next from Jacob Price under 50 kgs, Alexander Wallace under 55 kgs and Matthew Sallis under 60 kgs.
Dominic Russell won gold convincingly at under 66 kgs while Ben Fletcher won gold and Marcus Webster bronze at under 81 kgs.
There were not many Pinewood girls in the group but they produced a good set of medals. Under 40 kgs Annabelle Ryan Hooper won gold and Paige Brazier took silver. At under 52 kgs Sophie Pang won gold and Dominique Brown took bronze, then Charlotte Mansfield rounded off the day for the club with bronze in the girl’s open weight group.
