English Open

The Pinewood Judo Club’s seniors were in action last weekend at the English Open, held at the Kendal judo club. The event is point scoring towards selection for the British senior squad.

On Saturday Megan Fletcher fought well to win the gold medal in the under 70 kgs weight group. Megan is still a junior so this is a good result. It shows she is getting able to cope with the greater strength range found in the senior Judo.

On the same day Graham Trinder fought well in the under 60 kgs weight group to win the bronze medal. He won some points and valuable experience from the outing and it shows he is in touch with the top British fighters.

On Sunday Jonathan Purssey hit top form and had an excellent day of Judo. He won the gold medal in the under 90 kgs weight group.

The Pinewood juniors had a rare weekend off but most of them will be back in action again next weekend at the Clacton tournament. Then on the following weekend, all being well, they will be fighting at the Almelo International in Holland.
