NHC Open

Fresh from their success in Belgium at the Wilrijk International the younger members fought in the Northern Home Counties junior and youth open judo tournament. The event was held at the High Wycombe Judo Centre on last Sunday.

The juniors had an excellent day, first of the mark was George Wyke who own the silver medal at under 38 kgs. In the under 42 kgs weight group Dominic Naylor won silver and Joshua Trafford took bronze; this was Dominic’s first contest at the weight.

In the under 46 kgs weight Charlie Davis won gold and Ben Jones the bronze, then Jacob Price won gold at under 50 kgs. Then came four bronze medals from Alexander Wallace and Ryan Cooper at under 55 kgs, Matthew Sallis under 60 kgs and Bradley Pimley in the over 60 kgs weight group.

Unusually Pinewood had only a few girls fighting, because many of them had school examinations to prepare for with home work etc.

At under 36 kgs Emily Harper won bronze, this was her first time in the weight and Emily found the opposition a bit heavier than usual. At under 44 kgs Annabelle Ryan Hooper won gold and Paige Brazier the bronze, Paige was another first timer in the weight group so she did very well indeed. Dominique Brown won gold at under 52 kgs to round off the junior’s score for the day.

In the youth section for under 21 year old judoka, Liam Franklin won gold at under 60 kgs with his usual fast and strong judo. Then at under 66 kgs Sam Wyke won gold with some excellent judo and Mark Naylor also had a superb day to win the bronze.

There were only two females in the Pinewood Judo Club’s youth squad, Emma Chamberlain won bronze at under 57 kgs and Megan Fletcher won gold in the combined under 70 and 78 kgs weight groups. This was an excellent session for Megan because she needed a tournament and there was one or two, very strong girls in attendance.
