World Championship Reports

Day 4

Great Britain won two medals today.  In the U60 kgs John Buchanan won Bronze after losing his first fight to the eventual winner Anis Lounifi from Tunisia.  The second medal was a Silver by Karina Bryant in the Womens Open Weight.  Great Britain's other entrant Fiona Robertson lost her first fight.

Day 3

Pinewood's Georgina Singleton was first up today but lost by ippon to the eventual winner of the U52 kgs Sun-Hui Kye from the Peoples Republic of Korea.  Georgina then lost to the Romanian in the repecharge.  Great Britain's other entrants Jenny Brien, Lee Burbridge, and James Warren all lost there first fights.

Day 2

In the U90 kgs France's Frédéric Demontfaucon won the Gold, while in the U63 Gella Vandecaveye of Belgium went one step better than in Birmingham and won Gold.

Great Britain's Kate Howey won our first medal of the tournament in the U70 kgs.  She lost to Masae Ueno of Japan and so had to settle for Silver this time around while, Graeme Randall lost in the semi-final to Cho In-Chul of South Korea who went on to beat Aleksei Budolin in the U81 kgs.  Graeme then lost for Bronze to Elkhan Rajabli of Azerbaijan.

Pinewood's own Karen Roberts won her 1st fight against the Canadian, but then lost to Sara Alvarez of Spain.  Unfortunately Karen then lost in the repecharge to the girl from the Netherlands.  Great Britain's Winston Gordon lost his first fight in the U90 kgs.

Day 1

Japan's Shinichi Shinohara only managed a bronze in the Over 100 kgs after losing in 14 seconds to Russia's Alexandre Mikhaylin. 

There were no surprises when Kosei Inoue destroyed all of the opposition to win his 2nd World Title at U100 kgs.  Alexandre Mikhaylin fought through a very tough draw to win the Over 100 kgs. Noriko Anno in the U78 kgs retained her World Title that she won in Birmingham.  China's Hua Yuan added the World Title to go with her Olympic Title in the Over 78 kgs.

Great Britain gained two 5th places today when both Michelle Rogers and Karina Bryant both lost for Bronze.
