Last Sunday a group of Pinewood fighters were competing in the inaugural Don Werner Memorial Championship at High Wycombe.
With a top club trophy carrying Don’s name being awarded at the end of the competition the pressure was on everyone to give their best.
Don Werner’s daughter Kerry and his 2 granddaughters were in attendance as well as numerous Pinewood ex international competitors including Nicola Fairbrother, Karen Roberts & Georgina Singleton who came along to add their support.
To everyone’s relief after a tough and hot day Pinewood took the overall trophy with a reasonably comfortable 27 point margin over Bishops Stortford in second place and Devizes Judo Club in third.
It was a real team effort with many competitors and parents staying long after they had finished in order to add their vocal support. The individual medal tally in no particular order was:-
- Terri Gough U44 Silver
- Caitlyn Clark U52 Gold
- Tobias Chapman U27 Bronze
- Alfie Flint U27 Bronze
- Noah Jones U30 Silver
- Isaac Young U30 Bronze
- Wade Muttit U34 Gold
- Callum Jones U38 Bronze
- Dan Franklin U38 Bronze
- James Ferre Silver
- Andrew Miamoto Bronze
- Holly Eccles U44 Silver
- Kiera Bateman U48 Gold
- Crissie Webb U70 Gold
- James Widman U46 Silver
- Declan Whyte U42 Silver
- Charlie Howell U73 Bronze
Coaches Mark Fricker and Geoffrey Torrington were understandably relieved that a Trophy carrying Don’s name is coming back to Pinewood.
