Luke Carswell U73kg World Champion

Last Saturday Luke Carswell was crowned Masters World Champion at U73kg in Malaga Spain.

Luke who has trained with dedication and will in preparation for this event was entered in the hotly contested M2 (over 30) category.

With over 40 in his group including entries from Russia and Japan, Luke never put a foot wrong showing stylish judo and great tactical awareness in each of his fights. A performance like this sets a great example to the younger club members and everyone is very proud of his achievement.

On Sunday a number of Teams from Pinewood were competing in the annual Bev Price Team Event in Walsall and medals were won as follows.

  • Lightweight Girls Gold
  • Lightweight Boys Silver
  • Heavyweight Boys Bronze
  • Heavy weight Girls Bronze
  • Mens Bronze.

A great performance was put in by the underweight and relatively inexperienced lightweight girls team comprising Lottie Stickland, Bella Holeman and Phoebe Deacon.

The Heavyweight girls team of Holly Eccles and Kiera Bateman got themselves into a creditable 3rd place despite fighting one person short.

This is a serious challenge in a three person team format, as every fight has to be a win!

The senior men’s team of Sam Wyke Sean Dineen and Phil Thorne also did very well particularly as Phil Thorne, at 60 years old was fighting men in their twenties!
