Some of the local schools held a Judo tournament at Pinewood last Saturday, for lower graded children. The event went quite well and was an excellent learning vehicle for these young competitors.

The Pinewood Judo Club group were fighting a little out of their weight band but they did very well indeed. The club had three girls fighting from the club, Charlotte Stokes won the silver medal in group three, Emily Brown took bronze in group five and Chrissie Webb won the gold medal in group ten.

The boys also did well, in group four Noah Jones won silver and Tobias Chapman took the bronze medal. Callum Jones won a bronze in group six and two more bronze medals were won by Alfie Thomas and Harry Woodhead in group seven. In group nine James Ferre won gold and Ky Webb took the silver medal, then Ryan Wilcock won bronze in group eleven.

On Sunday a few of the club’s seniors and a couple of veterans fought at High Wycombe in the Northern Home Counties open event. In the open weight group Samson Omonua won the silver medal, a good effort because he was the lightest Judoka in the group. Then Laura Taping won a creditable bronze medal in the under 63 kgs weight group.

In the veterans section Jason Picton won the gold medal in the combined 66 and 73 kgs weight group and Geoff Torrington did well to win bronze at under 100 kgs.
