The Midland Area Age Banded Tournament

The Midland Area age banded tournament was held last weekend at the Walsall Campus. The event was a compulsory one for the top British juniors under 20 years old; it had a large and very strong entry.

The Pinewood Judo Club had a smaller number entered than usual because some of the older Judoka were on their way to Belgium for a weeks training camp. However they managed a quite creditable medal score of 8 gold and 3 bronze trophies.

The youngest age band produced the most medals for the club, in the under 27 kgs weight group James Widman won gold with some ease and Declan Whyte at under 30 kgs also fought superbly to take the gold medal. At under 34 kgs Daniel King did well to take the bronze and Harrison John produced some excellent Judo to win gold at under 50 kgs.

The girls also had a good day with Kiera Bateman winning gold at under 36 kgs and Eva Thomas took gold at under 40 kgs with some very strong Judo.

In the next age band Christian Tepper won gold at under 30 kgs, Sam Blair took bronze under 38 kgs and Olivia Spellman won a bronze medal at under 40 kgs.

The next group was very strongly attended, the club took two gold medals Dominic Naylor found his form and won gold at under 55 kgs and Emma Pang also hit top form to win gold at under 44 kgs.

This was an excellent result for the club because the tournaments should start to be thick on the ground from now on.
