Venray Pre-Cadet, Sidney Open and Nottingham

Three Pinewood girls were fighting with the British pre-cadet and cadet squads in the Venray International, Holland. On Saturday Kiera Bateman won the bronze medal at under 44 kgs and Crissie Webb also had an excellent day when she took the silver medal in the over 63 Kgs weight group. On Sunday Olivia Spellman fought at under 52 kgs, she lost for the bronze medal which put her into fifth place; quite a satisfactory result.

Kevin Murphy who now lives in Australia won the gold medal at the inaugural tournament for Veterans, the event was held in Sidney.

Pinewood Coach Don Werner travelled to Nottingham with seven of the junior members; they were in superb form bringing home 5 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal.

The three under 12 years old boys were fighting brilliantly and they managed a maximum score of medals. Ruben Lord won gold at under 27 kgs; he produced some excellent Judo technique on the way to this medal.

In the under 30 kgs weight group Wade Muttitt won gold and Jay Bennett took the silver medal. They defeated some very useful opponents in the pools and knock out sections; on their way to the finals.

In the under 16 years section there were four Pinewood fighters, Holly Eccles won gold at under 40 kgs and Niamh Whyte took bronze at under 52 kgs.

The two boys also had an excellent day, Declan Whyte won the gold medal at under 38 kgs and William Von Mallinckrodt was in superb form when he won gold at under 66 kgs. producing some spectacular throws.
