London Open

Last weekend some of the Pinewood Judo Club members fought in the 2013 London Open Judo Championships. The event was held in the Sports Dock University Way over two days and very well attended in all sections.

The Pinewood squads did well to win 22 medals, 6 gold, 6 silver and 9 bronze in total. Each section of the Club pulled their weight, the first on was the minors born in the years 2001-02-03-04-05. At under 27 kgs Noah Jones won gold while Ruben Lord and Tobias Chapman took both bronze medals. In the under 30 kgs weight Wade Muttitt and Tobias Trafford both won bronze. Cameron Charles had an excellent day winning the gold medal at under 50 kgs and K-C Franklin came home with the gold medal at under 25 kgs.

In the Pre Cadet section at under 38 kgs James Widman won silver and Declan Whyte took a bronze medal and at under 60 kgs Thomas Huckstep won a bronze medal.

For the girls in this section at under 52 kgs Kymran Shergill won silver and at under 57 kgs Niamh Whyte took bronze. Crissie Webb fought well to also win a silver medal at over 63 kgs.

In the Cadet section William Von Mallinckrodt had a great result taking the bronze at under 66 kgs and Olivia Spellman won the gold medal at under 52 kgs, to complete the day’s score for Pinewood.

On Sunday the older groups were fighting and in the youth section William won gold under 66 kgs and Olivia took the 52 kgs silver medal. Olivia then went on to take the bronze under 52 kgs in the senior section. She had an amazing weekend and showed incredible stamina and fitness.

The Pinewood veterans were also fighting on Sunday and they produced an excellent result. Luke Carswell won gold at under 73 kgs, Martin Rance took silver under 81 kgs and Daniel Harvey did exceptionally well to win silver in the over 100 kgs weight group. Kim Tilley rounded off the Pinewood score with a silver medal at under 63 kgs.
