NHC Minimon, Glasgow European Open Men, Rome European Open Women

Last weekend was quite a successful one for the Pinewood Judo Club. Megan Fletcher won a silver medal in the Rome tournament at under 70 kgs and her brother Ben Fletcher also won the silver medal in Glasgow at under 100 kgs at the Scottish European Cup. In the same event Matthew Purssey fought at under 90 kgs in Scotland and had a remarkably good day too; he won a bronze medal at under 90 kgs.

Holly Eccles was fighting in the Western Area and won the bronze medal at under 48 kgs in the Somerset County Open event.

Coach Don Werner went to High Wycombe with the lower grade juniors, some were fighting in their first ever tournament; he likes to see them though this rather traumatic period of their career.

The Wycombe event was held on Sunday and Tobias Chapman started the score with a silver medal in the under 27 kgs weight group.

At under 30 kgs Ruben Lord won gold and Jay Bennett took the silver medal; they were in superb form using some excellent technique.

At under 34 kgs Oliver Young fought well to take the silver medal and Tobias Trafford took a bronze medal. Daniel Franklin and Lois Kote took both bronze medals at under 38 kgs and this was Lois’ first Judo contest. Another first timer Benedict Carless took the gold medal in the under 50 kgs weight group to round off the boys under 12 years section.

Only two Pinewood girls were fighting and they both took a gold medal, K-C Franklin was fighting at under 25 kgs and Phoebe Deacon under 36 kgs.

Only two of the clubs Judoka were fighting in the under 16 years group, Callum Jones won gold at under 34 kgs and Caitlyn Clark won silver at under 57 kgs; this was also her first contest so she looks a good prospect for the future too.

Next weekend Pinewood Judo Club will be fighting in the Southend International Tournament on both Saturday and Sunday.
