Harlow Open & Welsh Open

Eleven of the Pinewood Judo Club’s juniors fought at the Harlow under 16 years Open Championship last Saturday. They did quite well to bring home 6 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals in total.

In the under 12 years section for red belts at under 27 kgs Tobias Chapman won a gold medal in group one. Then Alfie Flint won the silver medal in group two.

In the under 34 kgs weight groups Oliver Young won gold in group one and Tobias Trafford also won gold in group two. Benedict Carless won bronze at under 42 kgs and Phoebe Deacon won silver at under 36 kgs to round off the section.

Coach Don Werner decided to enter three of the boys into the yellow belt section as well. Tobias Chapman won a bronze medal under 27 kgs then at under 34 kgs Tobias Trafford won gold and Oliver Young took the silver medal.

In the under 16 years group Caitlyn Clark was in the red belt section and fought very well indeed to win the gold medal at under 52 kgs. Caitlyn looks a very good prospect for the future and is learning quickly.

In the open grade section of the under 16 years group at under 44 kgs Holly Eccles won the gold medal and William Von Mallinckrodt won gold with some ease in the over 65 kgs weight group.

On the same day three Pinewood girls were fighting in the Welsh Open in the Cadet group at Cardiff. Olivia Spellman won the gold medal at under 57 kgs and Jenny Roberts took the silver medal. Emma Pang won a bronze medal in the Youth section at under 52 kgs.

On Sunday some of the senior Pinewood Judoka fought and they were very successful. Daniel Harvey won a bronze medal in the heavy weight group, over 100 kgs. Ben Fletcher fighting at under 100 kgs fought superbly to take the gold medal and then there was a pause before Megan Fletcher took to the Tatami.

Megan fought her way through to the final of the under 70 kgs weight group with some excellent technique. The final went five and a half minutes into the golden score before Megan finally took the first place.

It was an excellent weekend of results for the Pinewood Judoka of all levels, from junior to senior.
