NHC Red Belt

On Saturday 29th March eleven of Pinewood Judo Club’s Novices attended the NHC Area Red Belt Competition and came away with a very creditable 10 medals.

Phoebe Deacon at U36kg was on good form fighting her way to a Gold medal. Despite some great judo a small mistake cost Isaac Young a Gold medal in the final of the U29kg group with his club mate Felix Lord taking Bronze.

Sisters Caitlyn and Madi Clark were competing in the U52kg and U40kg groups where each of them took well deserved Gold medals.

Ben Zacharius and and Luca Murphy both placed 5th in the U30kg group gaining valuable experience. Tobias Trafford at U33kg was on great form producing some very focused judo, however one poorly prepared attack on a capable opponent meant that he left with a Bronze medal and a valuable lesson! James Ferrere in only his second competition delighted his coach and parents with some very determined contests that resulted in a Gold medal for him U46kg, his friend and club mate Kesley Gibson also in his second competition settled for a Bronze in the same weight group.

Further afield in Brisbane Australia old Pinewood fighter Kevin Murphy kept up the good work with a Gold medal in the Brisbane Open, this was all the more impressive as Kevin is 57 years old and was competing in the over 35 year old (mere boys) category at U81kg!
