Mantoken Tournament Brisbane, The High Wycombe Masters and Worstershire Open

The Pinewood Masters (or crinklies as Don Werner preferred to call them) were in action over the weekend.

In the Mantoken tournament Brisbane Australia Kevin Murphy took a Gold medal at the combined ~90kg +45 years category. This was a strong result for Kevin who weighed in at U80kg and was carrying injuries.

In the less exotic surroundings of the High Wycombe Masters tournament the first Pinewood fighter to take to the mat was Luke Carswell, who was on great form taking a maximum 10 points from each fight and defeating the current GB number 1 to take a well deserved Gold at U73.

Next up was David Rance at U81kg, who narrowly lost his first contest by penalty after which he displayed his usual mix of good standing and excellent grappling judo  to take a well deserved Silver Medal.

Mark Fricker at u100 looked a little rusty in his first contest when losing by a wazari and a yuko he finally woke up and managed to throw his opponent for Ippon with 1 second on the clock, (better late than never)! His next opponent was Nick Kokataylo a good quality ex Olympian, after a reasonable start to the fight a moment of indecision left Mark being held for Ippon and a Silver medal.

In the Kyu grade section Stuart Cook put in a great performance smashing his way through the unfortunate opponents to take a Gold medal. Stuart who is now a regular on the Advanced class showed that hard work really does pay off.

Kim Tilley who is a regular Wednesday night member won what will be her last Gold medal, as she has decided to retire from competition. This was a fitting end to a long and successful career for Kim who will remain very involved in her role as competition organiser.

In the Worcestershire U16 Open on Saturday Kiera Bateman won a Gold at U48 and a Bronze at U52.
