10th Salisbury Open

A small squad from the Pinewood Judo Club fought in the 10th Salisbury Open Judo Championships last Sunday, at the Five Rivers Leisure Centre. In the junior section Cameron Charles fought well to win the silver medal in the under 50 kgs weight group. He was winning the final but an error cost him the fight, so he had to be satisfied with the silver. At under 57 kgs Eva Thomas won the silver medal and Niamh Whyte took the bronze medal. Crissie Webb in the over 63 kgs weight group also won the silver medal.

In the senior section the club only had one Judoka fighting; Matthew Sallis at under 81 kgs did well to win the bronze medal.

The three Pinewood veterans had a good day, in the combined under 90 and under 100 kgs Geoff Torrington won gold and Mark Fricker won the silver medal.

In the ladies section Kim Tilley fought well to win a silver medal at under 63 kgs.

Many of the club’s members are on holiday in August but the tournaments will start again in full during September.
