British Championships

The British National Championships were held last weekend at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

The Pinewood Judoka were, for the most part, at the youngest end of the age bands. In the Pre Cadets section Cameron Charles won the gold medal with some excellent Judo in the under 55 kgs weight group. All of his opponents had the advantage of reach on him but he coped very well and battled his way through to take the gold medal.

Pinewood Judo Club have had a champion every year since the event was first held in 1968; quite a record and one of which the club is inordinately proud to hold.

In the Cadet section Holly Eccles had a good day too she was fighting well and won the bronze medal at under 44 kgs. Also in this section Olivia Spellman won a bronze medal at under 57 kgs to complete the Pinewood score.

Next weekend the other half of the Nationals will be held. This will include the under 21 years Youth and Seniors sections where Pinewood Coach Don Werner hopes to pick up a few more medals.
