Last Sunday Pinewood fighters faced their first contest after the sad death of their coach and mentor Don Werner.
They reacted to this challenge in a manner that would have made him proud. In the under 30kg group three were entered and following a comprehensive demolition of the opposition fought each other for the top three places with Noah Jones taking Gold, Reuben Lord the Silver and Jay Bennett a Bronze.
Next up was Oliver Young in the under 34kg category, facing tough opposition his performance improved with every fight resulting in a very creditable Gold medal.
Dan Franklin was last to compete and determined not to be outdone he fought with determination taking a Silver in a hard fought final.
Mark Fricker who was coaching on the day was pleased and proud as each of the fighters to put this first test behind him.
As one person remarked to him Don would have been ‘moderately pleased’.
