North West Area Open Ranking Event

Last Saturday a small group of Cadet Pinewood fighters were competing in the North West area Open Ranking Judo Tournament.

First to compete in the U44 Cadet section was Holly Eccles, she was on great form gaining her 3rd Gold in a row. Coach Mark Fricker is particularly happy with her progress as she managed to beat her rival and current national champion for the the 3rd time in as many contests and having lost to her for the last few years the tables appear to be turning.

Next up in the Cadet section was Kiera Bateman who blasted through the opposition whith some fantastic
Judo and strangles in particular to win a Gold. This was another great performance as her wins included

both  the current national champion and 2nd ranked competitor in her weight group.

Jade Eccles cemented her return to form with a Silver medal in the U57 Cadet group with only a knee injury forcing her to with draw from the final.

Last to compete was Will Mallinkrodt, who displayed his usual stylish judo to gain a Bronze in the Cadet U73 division, narrowly losing a place in the final.

With the loss of their Sensei Don Werner still fresh in their hearts and minds, this performance was a great effort and a fitting tribute to him.
